Dr Sarah ClementsSpecialty: Obstetrics & Gynaecology
Sub-specialty:Maternal Fetal Medicine
My name is Sarah Clements and I’m an Obstetrician working at the Prince of Wales Private Hospital. I received a first class Honour’s Degree as part of my Medical Training and chose to specialise in Obstetrics and Gynaecology early in my career. Initially I trained in London before transferring to The Royal Hospital for Women to complete my training with the Australian and New Zealand College. When I obtained my Fellowship I chose to concentrate on looking after women through pregnancy and delivering their babies (Obstetrics). I have always found this the most exciting and fulfilling part of the specialty and therefore I no longer practice as a gynaecologist. Although most pregnancies and births go well there are times when Obstetrics can be more complicated and more skills are required. I wanted to gain these skills so spent 3 extra years training in Maternal Foetal Medicine (MFM). MFM is the branch of Obstetrics which deals with high risk pregnancies when either the mother or the baby inside the womb, have complications. With these skills I can help make women’s pregnancies as safe as possible. I have been working in the field of Obstetrics for more than 20 years and still find delivering babies as rewarding as when I started. Giving birth to my 3 children remains the most important life event for me. Every woman’s pregnancy and birth are different and one of the privileges of being an obstetrician is helping women plan their journey. I offer individualised care, recognising that birth is a unique event for each woman. I only book a small number of private patients each month so I can maintain this individualised approach.
