Education and Tours
Prince of Wales Private Hospital takes a holistic approach to perinatal education. Due to the ongoing risk of COVID-19, our face-to-face antenatal classes have been replaced with digital learning methods for the convenience and safety of families and staff.
Please note our Maternity tours have been cancelled until further notice.
Our Maternity Ward Tour gives you an opportunity to come in and take a look around our wonderful Maternity Unit.
We will show you our Birthing Suites, Postnatal Ward, Baby Nursery and give you an insight into the other facilities and services that Prince of Wales Private Hospital has to offer.
Tours run for approximately 20-30 minutes in duration, please ensure you arrive at least 5 minutes prior to the commencement of your tour.
Due to COVID-19, face-to-face antenatal classes are not possible at this time. However, mums-to-be and partners can now take part in our live-streamed antenatal events via Zoom.
Birth and parenting education sessions are run over 2 consecutive weeks - Wednesday evenings (6.30pm – 9.00pm) and Saturday afternoons (1.00pm – 3.30pm).
Our experienced and friendly Antenatal Educator will be there to guide you and answer any questions you may have. Group numbers are limited so that she is available to support all couples to feel more confident about the transition ahead. We recommend you take these classes at around 30-32 weeks into your pregnancy.
To enquire about class dates and to secure your place, please email Maternity Bookings on: firstname.lastname@example.org
If you prefer to learn at your own speed from the comfort of home, take a look at our library of pre-recorded antenatal videos:
- Express antenatal class
- Labour positions
- Vaginal birth
- Caesarean section
Videos cover the key themes of pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding, and form part of a comprehensive approach to antenatal education when viewed in conjunction with our live-streamed classes (see below).
Please contact Maternity Bookings and Admissions on 02 9650 4693 or at email@example.com to obtain the password. Access if free of charge for maternity patients.
We continue to run our breastfeeding drop-in and discussion group, however, with social distancing measures in place.
It is an opportunity to feed your baby under the supervision of a Lactation Consultant while you are in the Maternity Ward. Sessions may also cover common breastfeeding issues, such as understanding how human milk is made, how a baby drinks at the breast, and how to trouble-shoot problems.
Held in the Education Room, it occurs several times a day, Monday to Friday.
Our physiotherapists can advise you on matters, including:
- pelvic floor exercises
- core strength following childbirth
- assessments following surgical birth
- back care
Fees may apply for physiotherapy assessment and health fund rebates may be available in some cases.
Baby bathing is usually not done until the second or thirdday. Bathing takes place in the nursery and a member of nursing/midwifery staffwill be available to assist you.
A Lactation Consultant is available on the Maternity Ward 7days per week. The Lactation Consultant is available to see mums who requireadditional breastfeeding support beyond what our experienced midwives canprovide.
