Our private birthing suites offer a spacious, comfortable and air conditioned environment, while our experienced midwifes are there to guide you through labour and support the birth of your baby.
Each suite is fitted with state-of-the-art equipment and technology, a television (with all digital channels and a comprehensive movie schedule), refreshment facilities and an ensuite bathroom complete with bath tub.
The rooms have lounges which pull open to provide additional comfort for partners if required. Each suite is furnished with electronic delivery beds which provide safety for delivery and comfort through flexible bed configuration during your labour.
We also provide a variety of resources that can be used during childbirth including a bath (in ensuite) for water immersion, birth balls, mats and stools.
POWP use bedside computer based patient management and foetal monitoring system known as K2. The K2 system, enables your obstetrician to have online access to your admission and labour progress in real time. We can monitor your baby’s heart rate from admission through to the delivery. Your obstetrician can check in on what is happening in the room at all hours of the day and night.
Our Maternity unit has 24 private rooms* all with ensuites. Our spacious postnatal accommodation rooms offer a private space for you to bond with your new baby.
Some rooms have a single bed with a chair that converts to a sofa bed for the support person to sleep while others are equipped with double beds.
Each bed has a bedside console unit that registers your need for assistance by the nursing staff. Please do not hesitate to use this when you require assistance

The ward has a lounge area, kitchenette and Well Baby Area where babies are bathed and weighed, and where daily education sessions are presented.
*During busy periods we cannot guarantee a private room immediately following the birth of your baby, however a private room will always be allocated as soon as one becomes available.
Our special care nursery is available for those babies requiring extra support after birth.
At Prince of Wales Private Hospital we understand that this can be a concerning time for parents. Our specialised nursing staff are there to provide care and comfort to you and your baby.
The special care nursery is a level 2 nursery that is able to provide care for babies born from 32 weeks onwards with a Paediatrician on call 24 hours a day.
The paediatrician who cares for your baby at birth will continue care until discharge, your paediatrician will visit with you and your baby during their stay in SCN.
If your baby does required special care you will encouraged to participate in the care of your baby whilst they are in SCN. Our staff are there to provide all support you need during this time. Staff encourage kangaroo cuddles (this is skin to skin contact between you and your baby).
Siblings must not visit a new baby in the Special Care Nursery if they have been feeling unwell or been in contact with other unwell children (e.g. kindergarten or play group)
The completion of the renovation of the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Coogee has been unavoidably delayed until September 2020. This means the Prince of Wales Private Hospital will be unable to offer the Little Luxuries program as part of your Maternity admission.
We understand this may cause some disappointment and sincerely apologise for the disruption to our services.
Our number one focus is the safety and wellbeing of you and your new baby - we firmly believe noisy building works is not in the best interests of patients, nor can we be confident in the standard of the facilities used to provide care.
Please rest assured that our dedicated Hospital staff, together with your Obstetrician, will continue to deliver the same excellent standard of care for new mums in our Delivery and Postnatal Wards. The team will do their very best to ensure you are as comfortable and well supported as possible during your upcoming stay.
You are welcome to stay with your partner overnight to provide assistance and support.
Our rooms are designed to cater for an overnight stay and provide either a double bed or sofa bed. We are unable to guarantee an exact room-type but will endeavour to ensure that you are comfortable.
In order to accommodate partners during this time we charge $55 per night, which includes your overnight accommodation, hot breakfast and access to tea and coffee making facilities.
If you wish to stay overnight please note the following:
- Please notify the midwife or nurse caring for you. In the event of an emergency we need to know exactly who is in the maternity ward.
- Please remember to dress appropriately. Suitable night attire can be worn in the evenings but day clothing must be worn at all other times.
- Remember to wear footwear whilst walking around the ward or throughout the hospital.
- Please remember that you are in a hospital and a midwife, nurse or staff member may enter your room at any time during the day or night.
- Other children are not allowed to stay overnight under any circumstances.
- Additional meals and drinks are available
- Mobile phones may be used in your room but should not be used in the corridors.
Staying overnight is a great opportunity to assist your partner and develop your relationship as a family.
Meal Services begin at:
Breakfast: 7:00 am – 8:00am
Lunch: 12:00 midday – 12:45pm
Dinner: 5:00 pm – 6:45pm
All your meals will be freshly prepared in the hospital’s kitchen. Catering staff will visit you daily and discuss menu options. The meals are prepared in consultation with the hospital
Dietician who is available to attend to any special dietary requirements.
Televisions are complimentary in all rooms and a movie schedule is available as well as standard free-to-air digital channels.
A telephone is provided at your bedside. The cost of local calls is included in your accommodation fee.
Your room will be cleaned daily. If you have any concerns regarding any aspect of this service please bring it to the attention of one of the nursing staff.
It is strongly recommended that you DO NOT bring valuables of any description to the hospital. There is a small safe provided in each wardrobe for any personal effects that you may wish to lock away. The Hospital does not accept liability for any belongings that may go missing.
Strictly 11am – 1pm & 4pm – 8pm
Partners are welcome to visit at any time and can choose to stay overnight if you are in a private room.
We ask that you restrict your visitor numbers to 2 per visit to minimise disruption to other parents and babies and to ensure that you have adequate rest time.
Please note children under the age of 16 are required to be supervised by a responsible adult.
Many buses drop off and pick up near the hospital. We suggest visitor’s access www.transportnsw.info or call the information line on 131500 to assist in planning their journey.
To protect the health of our patients, visitors and staff - all The Randwick Hospital Campus buildings, grounds, walkways, entrances and car parks are smoke free. Therefore smoking is prohibited on our grounds and compliance is a condition of entry to the campus.
Babies especially in the Special Care Nursery are vulnerable to infection.
Therefore we ask all visitors, including parents to wash their hands on entry to the unit and nursery, to help reduce this risk.
There is an underground Point Parking car park accessible from Barker Street or Hospital Road with easy lift access to Prince of Wales Private Hospital from Level B4.
The car park is privately managed and as such Prince of Wales Private Hospital has no control over the costs of car parking. However there is a 5 day discounted rate available if obtained on the first day of your admission. Please telephone Point Parking on (02) 9326 7233 or contact their Office which is located on level B1 of the car park for all queries regarding car park fees and discounts.
Refreshments can be purchased by family and friends from Hudson’s Coffee Shop on Level 7.

Reading material such as newspapers and magazines are available for purchase on Level 0.
There is a laundry service provided by a local laundrette, “Daily Wash Randwick”. They provide a same day service for a small fee. All washing should be bagged into a pink hospital bag for collection at designated times.
Monday – Friday – pick up 8:30am for return delivery at 6:30pm (same day).
Weekends – Pick up 1pm for return delivery at 5:30pm (same day).
Prescriptions are supplied from the Pharmacy. You will receive an itemised account from the Pharmacy for any medications not covered by your health fund or DVA on or after discharge.

Medications should never be taken without the knowledge of the Nursing staff and are stored securely in your bedside locker or in a designated safe as per NSW legislation during your admission.
